Crafting and Football

**This post is more about my craftyness than fashion, but it features DIY accessories**

I've never been a big sports fan, I mean if given the choice I'd almost certainly choose to watch cartoons over any other type of tv show. (don't judge, cartoons can be really witty!) But the boyfriend is a big sports fan, and I mean he lives and breathes by his sports team, the eagles. Naturally I want to try and understand his obsession so I end up watching a lot of sports. However, my attention span isn't top notch even with stuff I'm interested in, so I tend to get bored. The solution is to occupy myself with crafting. That way he can focus on his sports and I'm not hanging all over him while he's jumping around the room, and I'm not deathly bored.  Normally I paint, but I've recently gotten super into making headbands. I made my sister a bunch of them for christmas to help with her "special" new haircut. Bless her heart! But they were so fun and sooooo easy to make that I made 4 more for my roomie.

So here's a few pics of the headbands I made and modeled while watching the game. (also aren't I too cute in my eagles jersey! I got it for $8 on ebay!)

This one done with a blank metal headband that I covered with some ribbon and then added the little glitter bow I made from another ribbon and a button.

A little nautical themed of sorts. I thought this turned out pretty well. The cord is something I found in the trim department at Hobby Lobby and the rose was made from some scrap ribbon. The star is actually from some holiday garland that was laying around.

This flower was made by burning the edges of a silk fabric and then layering them. I added some buttons and a pearl bead for accents and to hide the stitches in the center that hold the flower together. It was then glued on to a blank metal headband.
I took a regular stretchy headband and added a rosette I made from some scrap ribbon. Then I hot glued a bunch of buttons and pearls to some felt and attached it to the ribbon. It's a fun statement hair accessory.
All of these things were free for me to make because I have a HUGE stockpile of ribbon, buttons, scrap fabric etc, but these are things that would be fairly cheap to make even if you had to buy all the supplies. Hobby lobby is my favorite place to go for stuff like that because they have sales all the time. I tend to stock up when their trim and ribbon is 50% off.  If you want to add some fun to an outfit but can't afford fancy bags or shoes, a headband is a great eye-catching addition to any outfit, and if you make them yourself you can custom match them to any outfit you own. Imagine the possibilities!

If anyone is interested in me making a How-To video for creating some of these headbands and other techniques just let me know. My new camera takes HD video too! yipee! So I'd be more than happy to post some up on here. It's really easy-peasy I promise ya'll!
